OUR CONCEPT
Since 2020, Hyuga City has been focusing on welcoming workationers, mainly from domestic companies. Over the past four years, a total of 110 companies and 1,600 people have visited Hyuga City, making it famous as Japan’s top workation destination. The local reception system, developed through public-private partnerships, and the well-established community with rich content have received high praise in various areas.
Now, Hyuga City has formulated a new business plan to attract digital nomads by adapting its know-how in hosting domestic workations. This plan has been selected as one of the national model demonstration projects.
In Hyuga City, the plan is to target ‘Surfer Digital Nomads’ who are attracted to the city’s unique surfing culture, and ‘Local Digital Nomads’ who seek experiences and interactions different from urban workations. By doing so, the city aims to leverage its strengths developed through domestic workations to attract digital nomads as well.
Additionally, by verifying the “new workation” that addresses the unique needs and challenges of digital nomads identified in last year’s “Digital Nomad Workation Monitor Tour,” which was conducted ahead of other municipalities in Japan, Hyuga City aims to build a sustainable ‘Local Digital Nomad Workation’ model. This model will not only increase traditional tourism spending and city promotion effects but also create economic benefits through business inbound in new areas.
Through this project, let’s connect with Hyuga City, Japan’s top workation destination!
SCHEDULE
September
Local Residents MeetUp
We will hold an exchange meeting with the warm-hearted local residents of Hyuga City.
By sharing meals with residents from unique cultural areas such as the port town of Hososhima and the quiet mountain village of Togo, you can experience the culture and history of Hyuga City.
Once you share a drink, you’ll become a proud “Hyuga person” too!
Night Culture(SNACK BAR) Tour
In Japan, there is a unique nightlife culture called “snack bars.”
Among them, Miyazaki Prefecture is known as the top “snack bar” prefecture in Japan.
Hyuga City also has many snack bars where you can enjoy drinks, karaoke, and conversations with the staff for around 3,000 yen per place.
Once you find your favorite snack bar, the quality of your life in Hyuga might increase several times over!
Business MeetUp
One of the main themes of the national model demonstration project is the business matching between digital nomads and local companies.
Especially in small regional cities like Hyuga City, many companies face challenges related to ICT and DX. The diverse knowledge and expertise of digital nomads have the potential to greatly assist these companies.
In this monitor tour, we will hold business exchange meetings in Hyuga City as well as in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, aiming to create new business opportunities.
Surfing Dojo
In this monitor tour, we have planned various experience programs.
One of the highlights is the “Surfing Dojo.”
Hyuga City, known as the “Mecca of Surfing” with several top surf spots in Japan, offers waves suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced surfers.
It is also famous for its friendly local surfers. Through interactions with many local surfers, you can gather valuable information on recommended surf spots, delicious restaurants, and the best snack bars.
